Insert Options
OZ.1i is the first L.A.B. putter model to feature a face insert. While inserts certainly look cool, there is a functional reason for them. Some golfers prefer a specific sound and feel at impact, and OZ.1i putters have stainless steel inserts that create a firmer feel and faster ball speeds. There are also one-piece, all aluminum OZ.1 models that feel softer. They will be popular with those that love the way the L.A.B. DF3 feels. In terms of size and shape, OZ.1i (with the insert) and OZ.1 (without) are exactly the same.
Design Inspiration
The OZ.1 design process started over a pint with Adam Scott, where he offered two important pieces of feedback about the look he was seeking. Adam has a fondness for the back end of a certain high-performance German sports car, and that was where we started with the back of the putter design. On the front side of the putter, Adam asked L.A.B. Golf to reimagine one of the most famous mallet putters of all time. L.A.B. Golf interpreted the shape of the back of that sports car and the front of that mallet putter for the first prototype. There were things Adam liked a lot, but he also let L.A.B. know that they didn’t have to take his recommendations quite as literally as they did. He invited the L.A.B. engineers to get creative, and after many more prototypes and conversations, the OZ.1 was born.
Solid Body Construction
OZ.1 is L.A.B. Golf’s first half-moon style mallet putter, and the solid-body construction of the putter – no large holes or fangs like their other mallet putters – felt incredible from the start. They spent a great deal of time fine tuning OZ.1 to make it the most “normal” mallet putter they have ever created in terms of sound and feel. That’s true with both OZ.1i and OZ.1. Most importantly, L.A.B. maintained the forgiveness their mallets are known for to make sure OZ.1i and OZ.1 measured up to their extremely popular DF3 and MEZZ.1 MAX putters in terms of stability. Like all L.A.B. putters, OZ.1i and OZ.1 are 100% Lie Angle Balanced. Thanks to Lie Angle Balance, both putters feel great and roll straight.
New Vertical Shaft Option
OZ.1i and OZ.1 are L.A.B. Golf’s first mallets to offer a 0-Degree (Vertical) Shaft Lean option. They developed this vertical shaft option for golfers who:
– Prefer to see a vertical shaft at address
– Want to use a standard grip on a L.A.B. Golf mallet putter
Additionally, OZ.1i and OZ.1 will also be available with a 2° Shaft Lean option, which is the same lean as the L.A.B. DF3.
Golfers who choose the 2° Shaft Lean option will want to pair their putter with a L.A.B. Press Grip. Golfers that choose the 0° shaft lean should not use Press Grip.
OZ.1 Custom Options
Like all L.A.B. Golf custom mallet putters, OZ.1i and OZ.1 offer L.A.B. Golf’s full range of custom options. Choose your length, lie angle, head weight, colour, alignment marking, shaft, shaft lean, and grip to ensure your putter is for you and you only.
